Established in 1987, MSIDC aims to facilitate the acquisition and dissemination of knowledge in the fields of infectious diseases and chemotherapy. It promotes research and the exchange of scientific knowledge through discussions, reports, and publications. Since its establishment, MSIDC has affiliated itself with the International Society of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy, the International Society of Chemotherapy for Infection and Cancer (ISC), and the Asia Pacific Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infection (APSCMI).
Currently, MSIDC has more than 400 members who have a special interest in infectious diseases, including clinical microbiologists, physicians and surgeons from various specialties as well as veterinarians, pharmacists, scientific officers, nurses, and medical laboratory technologists. MSIDC has established five dedicated interest groups: the MSIDC Antimicrobial Stewardship Interest Group (MAMSIG), the Malaysian Influenza Working Group, the MSIDC Mycology Interest Group (MMIG), the Zoonosis Interest Group, and the MSIDC Antimicrobial Resistant Surveillance Group (MARS). Additionally, MSIDC attracts corporate members from both the pharmaceutical and diagnostic industries.
