Namita Jaggi India
Dr. Namita Jaggi is one of India's leading Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) experts, with over 33 years of experience in infection prevention, clinical microbiology, antimicrobial resistance (AMR), healthcare-associated infections (HAIs), patient safety, antimicrobial stewardship, quality improvement and the use of artificial intelligence in Healthcare . An alumnus of the prestigious Maulana Azad Medical College, she currently serves as Chairperson, Laboratory Services & Infection Control and Chief, Education & Research at Artemis Hospital, Gurugram, a 750+ bed tertiary care hospital. She has also completed the certificate course Improving Global Health: Focusing on Quality and Safety from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.
Since the inception of Artemis Hospital in 2007, Dr. Jaggi has led the establishment and continual strengthening of its Infection Prevention and Control programme, integrating evidence-based practices with laboratory excellence, antimicrobial stewardship, surveillance, and quality improvement initiatives. Under her leadership, the hospital received the prestigious WHO Asia Pacific Hand Hygiene Excellence Award (2010–2011), while the laboratory achieved multiple national and international accreditations and is recognized for its state-of-the-art infrastructure and rigorous quality standards.
As Chief of Education and Research, Dr. Namita Jaggi is deeply involved in translational research and has guided numerous DNB and PhD theses. Her research primarily focuses on the molecular mechanisms and epidemiology of antimicrobial resistance (AMR), the gut microbiome's role in resistance, rapid diagnostics, host–microbe interactions, and digital health innovations. Notable among the extramurally funded research grants are the 2 ongoing projects funded from ICMR on understanding the molecular mechanisms predisposing colistin heteroresistance in Klebsiella pneumoniae and evaluating the role of polyhydroxy alkanoates as adjuvants in increasing the effectiveness of colistin. Her recent deliverables included the development of an indigenous, cost-effective multiplex PCR assay for carbapenem resistance gene screening, which earned her the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America (SHEA)Alumni Award in 2022.
An internationally recognized leader in Infection Prevention and Control, Dr. Jaggi has received numerous honours, including the APIC Hero of Infection Prevention Award (2012), SHEA International Ambassador (2015), 10th Aadhi Aabadi Women Achievers Award (2018), and the SHEA IAP Alumni Research Grant (2022). She has provided technical leadership for several national and international initiatives on infection prevention, antimicrobial stewardship, and AMR in collaboration with organizations including the World Health Organization (WHO), Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), Centre for Disease Dynamics, Economics & Policy (CDDEP), and Hospital Infection Society–India (HISI).
Dr. Jaggi frequently delivers lectures at national and international conferences nd has authored numerous publications and medical textbooks in the fields of infection prevention, antimicrobial resistance, and clinical microbiology. She represented India in developing the APSIC Guidelines for the Prevention of Central Line-Associated Bloodstream Infections (CLABSI) and Catheter-Associated Urinary Tract Infections (CAUTI).
She currently serves in executive member positions with several professional organizations, including the Asia Pacific Society of Infection Control (APSIC) and Hospital Infection Society–India (HISI). She is also the Country Secretary of the International Nosocomial Infection Control Consortium (INICC) and serves as a reviewer for the Journal of Patient Safety and Infection Control and the Journal of Antimicrobial Resistance and Infection Control.
