Dr. Suraya Hanim Binti Abdullah Hashim is an Infectious Diseases Physician and Head of the Infectious Diseases Unit at Hospital Ampang, Malaysia. She is the Head of the Medical Department in Hospital Ampang. With over two decades of clinical experience, Dr. Suraya's interests lies in infection prevention and control (IPC), antimicrobial stewardship (AMS). Dr. Suraya holds a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) and a Master of Internal Medicine (MMED) from the University of Malaya. She completed her specialized Fellowship in Infectious Diseases at Hospital Sungai Buloh and the prestigious Royal Melbourne Hospital in Australia. Since assuming her leadership role at Hospital Ampang in 2018, Dr. Suraya has served as the Coordinator for the Hospital Infection Control and Antibiotic Committee (HIACC). She has driven system-wide IPC interventions and led as AMS leadere. Her initiatives include establishing the hospital’s Out-Patient Parenteral Antibiotic Therapy (OPAT) service in 2022 and authoring audits on catheter-associated and hospital-acquired bloodstream infections. At the national level, Dr. Suraya contributes to critical policy and education, having organized regional IPC training programs, pre-congress workshops for the National MyAMR Conference, and served as a contributor to the immunocompromised section of Malaysia’s National Antibiotic Guielines. She is an active investigator in global clinical trials—including phase III vaccine and antimicrobial step-down studies—and holds memberships in the Malaysian Society for HIV Medicine (MSHIV), and the Malaysian Society of Infectious Diseases and Chemotherapy (MSIDC).
