Dr.Takuya Yamagishi
Takuya Yamagishi, M.D., Ph.D. is a division chief of Field Epidemiology, Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) Research Center, National Institute of Infectious Diseases (NIID), Japan Institute for Health Security and a facilitator of Field Epidemiology Training Program (FETP) at NIID. After working as a clinician for nine years, Dr Yamagishi had a training of field epidemiology at FETP between 2008 and 2010. After completion of the program, he worked for establishment and operation of a national AMR surveillance (Japan Nosocomial Infections Surveillance: JANIS) at NIID between 2010 and 2012. He joined Infectious Disease Surveillance Center, NIID in 2012 and worked as an epidemiologist as well as an FETP facilitator. Between 2015 and 2017, he was seconded to Health Security and Emergencies (currently, WHO Health Emergency Program), WHO Western Pacific Regional Office as a medical officer and took a lead in a surveillance team. From 2020, he has been a current position. During his career, as an epidemiologist and infection prevention specialist, he had involved in the responses to more than 100 AMR events in healthcare settings and in the community, more than 60 COVID-19 events including the Diamond Princess Cruise event, and a couple of international outbreak responses (e.g. Ebora virus disease outbreak (EVD) in West Africa in 2015). He has been involved in the training of more than 100 FETP fellows including international FETP fellows. As a member of WHO collaborating center for AMR surveillance, he had supported outbreak response workshops in seven countries including Malaysia. Currently, Dr Yamagishi is responsible for risk assessment and response to AMR events, epidemiological study of AMR and healthcare-associated infections, infection prevention and control and sexually transmitted infections at NIID.
