Rahela Ambaras Khan Malaysia

Dr. Rahela Ambaras Khan is the Head of Pharmacotherapy Services at Hospital Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. She obtained her Board of Pharmacy Specialist (Pharmacotherapy) certification in 2013 and completed her PhD in Antibiotic De-escalation at the University of Malaya in 2018. In 2021, she was recognised by the Ministry of Health Malaysia as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in Infectious Diseases. At the Pharmacy Department, Hospital Kuala Lumpur, Dr. Rahela leads and coordinates several key services and committees including Pharmacotherapy Services, Antimicrobial Stewardship and Research and Development. She also plays an active role in direct patient care through multidisciplinary antimicrobial stewardship ward rounds. At the national level, Dr. Rahela serves on multiple Ministry of Health committees related to antimicrobial stewardship, infectious diseases and research and development contributing to the development of policies, clinical guidelines and professional training initiatives. She has also been instrumental in strengthening antimicrobial stewardship capacity by mentoring healthcare professionals and leading numerous educational programmes nationwide. Internationally, Dr. Rahela serves as an editor and peer reviewer for journals in antimicrobial therapy and clinical pharmacy. She is a frequent invited speaker and facilitator at national and international conferences, workshops and training programmes on infectious diseases and antimicrobial stewardship. She is also a member of the WHO SECURE project, contributing to initiatives aimed at improving sustainable access to essential and novel antimicrobials in Malaysia.
