Dr Syamhanin Adnan is among the first pharmacist in MOH who has pursued research of higher degree in field related to infectious disease. She obtained her PhD in 2014 from The University of Queensland, Australia in area related to PK/PD of antimicrobial in critically ill patients. Graduated from USM, Penang in 1996 and did her Master in Clinical Pharmacy at UKM in 2003-2004. She did her training in Hospital Seremban before was posted to district hospital, Hospital Tanjung Karang in 1997. Obtain her Master in Clinical Pharmacy before she joined Hospital Sungai Buloh, an ID center for Malaysia, as one of the core team in 2006, where she practices as an ICU pharmacist and gained her knowledge by direct involvement with the ID team in monitoring and auditing antimicrobial use as member of HIACC (Hospital Infection and Antibiotic Control Committee) and also as the editorial board for National Antibiotic Guideline; before she pursue her PhD in late 2010 in The University of Queensland. She was appointed as Head of Department from 2016 until 2022, and reappointed again in 2025. She was also the first pharmacist in MOH appointed as antimicrobial stewardship preceptor when Pharmacy Department of Hospital Sungai Buloh were appointed as AMS training center for pharmacist, in 2019.
