Dr.Ng Rong Xiang
Dr. Rong Xiang Ng is an Infectious Diseases physician at the Infectious Diseases Unit, Department of Medicine, Universiti Malaya and University Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) and UM Specialist Centre (UMSC), Malaysia. His clinical and research interests include antimicrobial stewardship, infection prevention and control (IPC), healthcare-associated infections, implementation research, HIV medicine, and quality improvement in healthcare. He has been actively involved in initiatives to optimize antimicrobial use and strengthen IPC practices through multidisciplinary collaboration and evidence-based interventions. Dr. Ng's work includes projects on penicillin allergy delabelling, antimicrobial stewardship, and healthcare-associated infections. He is an investigator in regional collaborative studies evaluating antimicrobial resistance and the management of infections caused by extended-spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL)-producing organisms. His research has also explored Staphylococcus aureus infections, COVID-19 therapeutics, and the application of real-world clinical data to improve patient outcomes. In the field of infection prevention and control, he has contributed to projects evaluating environmental hygiene and terminal cleaning practices, as well as emerging initiatives involving artificial intelligence to support surgical site infection surveillance and prevention. He has also participated in innovative clinical trial and simulation-based research related to infectious diseases such as decentralized clinical trial in pandemic situtation. Dr. Ng is actively involved in medical education, clinical audit, and implementation science, with a focus on translating research findings into sustainable improvements in clinical practice. He currently serves on the Organising Committee of APSIC 2026 and remains committed to advancing collaboration in antimicrobial stewardship and infection prevention and control across the Asia-Pacific region.
