Dr. Ng Sin Hui is an Internal Medicine Physician and Infectious Diseases Fellow at Universiti Malaya Medical Centre. His medical career has spanned multiple healthcare settings across Malaysia, from urban hospitals in Penang to rural healthcare practice in Sarawak, before transitioning into academic medicine at a university hospital. His early years working in the Ministry of Health provided extensive experience in managing a wide spectrum of medical and infectious diseases. Practising in Sarawak exposed him to the realities of delivering healthcare in resource-limited settings, where adaptability and clinical resourcefulness were essential. Following his transition into tertiary and academic healthcare settings, he is currently involved in inpatient and outpatient infectious diseases care, antimicrobial stewardship activities, outpatient parenteral antimicrobial therapy (OPAT), and medical education. His professional interests include diagnostic stewardship and quality improvement initiatives aimed at optimising blood culture ordering and best practices to improve positivity and reduce contamination rate. Since joining UMMC, Dr. Ng has also developed a particular interest in penicillin allergy assessment and penicillin delabelling programmes. He has been actively involved in multidisciplinary decision-making processes related to patient assessment for penicillin delabelling, direct oral challenge assessment (DOCA), or continuation of allergy labelling, while also contributing to the training and development of other healthcare workers in this expanding area of practice.
