Dr.Mohammed Faizal Bin Bakhtiar
Dr. Mohammed Faizal Bakhtiar is a physician scientist specializing in Allergy and Immunology Research with over 19 years of experience. His primary focus is on drug hypersensitivity, with expertise in clinical diagnosis, risk stratification, skin testing, drug provocation tests, and desensitization procedures. He has a strong laboratory background, including Phadia ImmunoCAP IgE and tryptase testing, basophil activation test (BAT), and HLA typing. Currently, Dr. Faizal is a lead researcher at the Allergy & Immunology Research Center, Institute for Medical Research, Malaysia, where he directs studies on drug allergies, vaccine hypersensitivity, and chronic spontaneous urticaria with a huge interest in the genotype-endotype-phenotype of drug hypersensitivity and has worked tirelessly in building capacity for in vitro testing of IgE-independent immediate drug hypersensitivities. He has developed national guidelines on latex allergy, beta-lactam allergy, and adverse reactions in the COVID-19 vaccination campaign and currently working on the guideline for NSAIDs hypersensitivity. His career includes international research collaborations, supervision of postgraduate students, and membership in esteemed organizations like the European Network of Drug Allergy (ENDA). He is also currently involved as a panel in the development of the Malaysian Guideline on Hereditary Angioedema 2026 via Hereditary Angioedema International (HAEi). Dr Faizal holds an MBChB from the University of Otago (New Zealand), an MRCP (UK) diploma, and a MMedSci in Drug Hypersensitivity Research (UniKL-RCMP, Malaysia). He has attended clinical attachments in Allergy and Immunology Centres such as in Newcastle General Hospital, Newcastle Upon Tyne, United Kingdom, Jagiellonian University, Krakow, Poland to name a few. His work has been extensively published in international journals and presented at major conferences, earning recognition for his contributions to the field.
