Dr. Steven Lim is a Consultant Physician in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases at Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital, a leading general hospital and referral center in Perak, Malaysia. He graduated from the International Medical University (IMU) in 2006 and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of London in 2012. Dr. Steven spent the early years of his career at Penang General Hospital before completing a fellowship in Infectious Diseases (ID) in 2018, with specialized training at Sungai Buloh Hospital, Malaysia’s national center for infectious diseases, and Alfred Hospital, a major transplant and trauma center in Melbourne, Australia. Dr. Steven’s clinical expertise spans a broad range of infectious diseases, with particular interests in HIV, antimicrobial stewardship, Gram-negative bacterial resistance, and neglected tropical diseases. A strong advocate for evidence-based medicine, he is actively involved in clinical research, education, and guideline development. He is a recognized clinical trialist and has led multiple studies, including the I-TECH Study on the use of ivermectin in COVID-19 treatment. He has authored peer-reviewed publications and serves as a reviewer for both local and international medical journals. In addition, he is actively engaged in national technical working groups, advisory boards, and expert panels in infectious diseases, antimicrobial stewardship, and vaccination, as well as in emerging antimicrobial modalities, including bacteriophage therapy. Dr. Steven currently serves as President of the Malaysian Society of Infection Control and Infectious Diseases (MyICID). He also leads the Malaysia Clinical Working Group of the Global Dengue Alliance, an international partnership led by dengue-endemic countries and the Drugs for Neglected Diseases Initiative (DNDi), dedicated to accelerating research and development for effective and affordable dengue therapeutics.
